Indialantic’s Coastal Catchall

Storage space is a precious commodity. Every inch of it should be utilized! Empty corners and odd angles can make for poor design choices, which thankfully can be solved with careful planning and creative solutions. This butler pantry, once an underutilized and awkward space, has been transformed into a highly functional and stylish hub of the home. With clear intentions and a focus on maximizing storage potential, the pantry now boasts an abundance of cabinets, a suite of appliances, and unique storage solutions. No longer an eyesore or an afterthought, it has become an integral part of the home’s design, seamlessly blending form and function.

This refreshed pantry is a chef’s dream, with a full-size fridge, sink, and oven, and the mud room is the perfect place to shed your shoes and sandy clothes after a day at the beach. The rich graphite hue creates a visually separate space from the lightly-colored pantry, and the hooks and bench seat provide ample storage for bags and shoes. With an active and bustling household, this transformation is a testament to the power of careful planning and creative design, creating spaces that are both beautiful and useful.

This project was purchased in 2021 and completed in 2022.

The butler pantry and mud room phase sold at $57,000 in July of 2021.

The function and aesthetic of this remodel were dramatically increased through…

    • Illuminating all areas and surfaces through the customized placement of cool LEDs and decorative lighting, and installing custom electrical solutions for practical charging and countertop appliance use.
    • Reframing the original angled wall to a 90 degree corner. This created a seamless flow of space in the adjacent room as well, and provided a perfect backdrop for the new modern cabinetry.
    • Transforming the previously closed-off pantry into a spacious and functional mudroom, equipped with mudroom storage and a comfortable bench seat for daily preparation.
    • Eliminating aging vinyl flooring that detracted from the residence’s coastal elegance. Durable 16” x 32” porcelain flooring was used, and the flooring installation was completed with all new baseboards, doors, hardware, and casing.
    • Covering the previous cliché pastel wall colors with a fresh coat of light, neutral paint.
    • A complete cabinetry redesign to introduce functional storage, efficient appliance layout, and an abundance of storage.
    • Replacing busy, dark granite countertops with light, maintenance-free quartz.
